Frenzy – In The Blood [2010]

June 22, 2010 1 comment
Formed in 1983 by Steve Whitehouse, Frenzy went on to be one of the premier 1980s generated neo-rockabilly/psychobilly bands of that era. Becoming well known for such great recordings as the Hall Of Mirrors album and the Clockwork Toy album which spawned their 1986 indie hit, I See Red. The band transposed their great performances onto stage with well constructed songs, many of which have become anthems, and a really energetic live show. From the early 1990s, Frenzy pushed the envelope and were ahead of their time in their approach to the modern rockabilly sound, some of which has become really en vogue of late. The band never ever really went away, and have been playing and recording continuously since their formation. Now with 13 albums under their belts, the latest of which is Nitro Boy, on their own record label Crash Records, Frenzy is again going from strength to strength. The last 3 albums, Nine O Nine, Dirty Little Devils, and Nitro Boy really show that Frenzy are once again… Read more.

Al & The Black Cats – Through Thick N Thin [2010]

June 4, 2010 1 comment
Al & the Black Cats is an American Rock n Roll band that combines much of the flare and musicianship of 50′s Rockabilly music with the speed and attitude of Punk Rock.

Since starting in early 2006, they’ve toured relentlessly throughout the world. And although they have suffered through their share of loses and hard times, what’s left is a core dedicated band of three at the top of their game ready to take on whatever is thrown there way.

What’s in store for Al & the Black Cats? The next year will include a new album, and new tours in areas both familiar and unknown to the band including America, Canada, Europe, Japan & more… Be on the lookout! Chances are they’re coming to a town near you!!

The Matadors – Undead One Night Only!!! (Live) [2005]

May 13, 2010 3 comments
In early 1995 Joel “Hooch” Parkins started a rockabilly band with his two friends “Creepin’” Jeff Sheppard and some other guy.

They played the “Z” circuit clubs of rural Ontario for about a year with much success. Riling up the plowmen and women of tobacco country is no small feat but they seemed to hold a power over them, forcing them to drink more and more booze until the farmers were unable to tend to their fields. Many crops were lost due to the Matadors in those years. Eventually the band would be boycotted on the rural circuit. The field workers feared, and rightly so, that if the MATADORS were allowed to play in their presence again, all would be lost.

So the boys headed into London, Ontario to ply their trade in the urban pubs. The crowds were untamable and reckless in the city. The Matadors set bar revenue records every night of the week.

Dozens of Matador-esque bands would pop up and then suddenly dissolve in frustration every day. Yet somehow, it wasn’t enough fo… Read more.

Nigel Lewis & The Zorchmen – Ain’t What I Call Rock’N’Roll [2010]

May 10, 2010 1 comment
Nigel Lewis is one of the godfathers of Psychobilly. Together with P.Paul Fenech he made up the Meteors back in 1979 and never stopped rockin ever since.
He left the Meteors after the first long player but his dark mind came to surface again in the Escalators and the Tall Boys. He was the mastermind behind these bands with his guitar and his unique voice. A few years ago Nigel decided to get a few guys together for a new project known as Nigel Lewis and the Zorchmen. The other band members were well known in our scene. Choppy (Caravans, Demented are Go and many other bands) playing bass, Ginger on drums (Ricochets and second drummer of the Meteors, Guana Batz) and Doyle (Klingonz) on guitar. They toured for a while and did some really good festival gigs. One of them on the 20th Satanic Stomp in Speyer, back in 2007. What a gig! In May 2009 Nigel played on Nutty Dave´s wake (see you in hell, old fella) at the Gaff in London. As Choppy was not available that night, Nigel decided to p… Read more.

The Brains – Zombie Nation [2010]

May 9, 2010 2 comments
More Brrraaaaaiiinnnsss!!! Canada’s most insanest, undeadest and bestest psychobilly horror-punks are back with a vengeance and an unquenchable thirst for new blood.

Since the release of their third self-titled full-length in early 2009, The Brains have been on a never-ending tour, steadily tearing a bloody swath across Canada, the US and Europe garnering an ever-faithful throng of rapt and adoring minions. Their two video singles for “Gone” and “Turn Around” enjoyed tons of airplay on Much Music, Much Loud and Musique Plus. They won “Punk Album Of The Year” from GAMIQ (Quebec indie music awards), were voted “Punk Band Of The Year” by the Montreal Mirror and had several songs featured on the top-selling x-Box, PS3 video game WET.

Recorded over several months deep underground in a Montreal bunker, ZOMBIE NATION is by far The Brains’ best work to date. Rene D La Muerte’s dirty Gretsch twang melds seamlessly with newcomer Colin The Dead’s blistering stand-up bass stylings all the… Read more.
